VietNamNet Bridge – If you visit Nam Dinh, a small town in northern Vietnam, don't miss exploring the life of salt workers as part of your journey to the ruined cathedral or Quat Lam beach.
The most famous salt field in Nam Dinh is located in the village of Van Ly of Hai Ly commune, Hai Hau district. Salt workers here produce white grains of salt.
They have to dig the ditches that leads sea water to the salt field.
From early morning, they pour sea water on the field.
Under the scorching sun, sea water crystallizes into salt grains.
The work continues until late afternoon, when workers collect salt and take it to the warehouse.
Salt producing stages must take place during the day; otherwise the salt level will fall.
Using simple tools and manual methods, income from salt is low.
Most salt workers are the elderly, women, and children.
Van Ly salt field is only 1km from a ruined church, a famous tourist site in Nam Dinh.
You can purchase salt right at the salt field.
