Nguyen Hong Minh, who has led Vietnam at many SEA and ASIAD Games, said Vietnam had the most chance to win medals in weightlifting and shooting. Tuan is Vietnam's top weightlifter and medal hope at the Olympics. Tuan and other athletes have undergone training in the US to prepare for the qualifying rounds.

Tuan said he has almost recovered from back and knee injuries.

"My recovery is going really well. I started training two months ago and it seems my back injury is already over," Tuan said. "I still have problems with my knees. There are three more months before the Olympics, so I think everything will be fine."

According to Tuan, he lifted 140kg in the snatch and 163kg in the clean-and-jerk during the training.

"My main opponents have a total lift of about 300kg during their national competition so if my total lift can stay above 300kg, there's high chance that we'll win a medal," he said. "I'm training to be able to achieve a total lift of 310kg or more."

Tuan won a silver and two bronze medals at the World Junior Weightlifting Championships 2011 in Malaysia and a silver medal at the Asian Championships 2013.

The Olympics qualifying rounds will be held in April, featuring sports such as rowing, fencing, gymnastics, Taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling.
