Lo Lo Chai is described by tourists as a "fairy tale village" with more than 100 households, most of them are Lo Lo, Mong and Dao people. Local residents have known how to develop community tourism based on local cultural values.
Previously, Lo Lo Chai was little known to the community. People in the village mainly live on self-sufficient agricultural production, growing corn and raising pigs and chickens. People's lives were extremely difficult because they did not have productive land and only cultivated on rocky patches.
In recent years, thanks to the attention of the People's Committee of Ha Giang province, Lo Lo Chai has strived to change the development of community tourism. Thanks to that, local ethnic people have had jobs to improve their livelihoods.
Most of the houses in Lo Lo Chai are built in the style of the Mong people. People keep the walls lined with stones and the roofs are covered with yin and yang tiles to keep them cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
The indoor space has been renovated and decorated with additional beds, mattresses, and blankets to serve tourists. The rental ranges from 500,000 VND to 1 million VND/night/room for 2 people and the prices for shared rooms are cheaper.
In addition to accommodation services, Lo Lo Chai also provides catering services for tourists with ethnic minority dishes.
Mr. Sinh Di Gai, Head of Lo Lo Chai village, is one of the first people to do community-based tourism. According to Mr. Gai, more tourists coming to visit Lung Cu flagpole so tourist services are also developing accordingly. Tourists often come to Lo Lo Chai to experience the life of ethnic people.
Realizing that tourists have to travel an hour to Dong Van town to find a place to rest and eat, Mr. Gai decided to offer tourism services right in his village.
He had to go learn about homestay models in other localities. Initially, he had little capital so he offered limited services. In 2017, Mr. Gai built another house in the Mong architectural style to serve tourists.
As the number of tourists to Lo Lo Chai increased, Mr. Gai provided additional catering services, guided guests to discover the cultural beauty of the indigenous people, and traditional cultural performances of ethnic minorities.
Seeing achievements by Mr. Gai in developing community tourism, other families in the village have followed him. They use their own houses, build additional toilets and equip necessary items to offer homestay services.
Lo Lo Chai has become a new destination for tourists when coming to Ha Giang. When tourism develops, the lives of people have improved significantly.
About 1/3 of households in Lo Lo Chai village are doing community tourism. Other households grow vegetables, raise chickens... to serve tourists.
People in Lo Lo Chai has applied information technology to promote their local tourism products, for example the use of platforms like Zalo, Facebook, TikTok, Youtube...
