Most notably, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, 24, broke the record in the men’s 1,500m freestyle event in the 18-and-above age category after clocking a time of 15:29.69 on February 27.
This comes after the talent hailing from the central province of Quang Binh set a new record in the men’s 800m freestyle event in the 18-and-above age category after completing the race with a time of 8:01.69.
On February 26 and February 27, Tran Hung Nguyen brought home two gold medals in the men's 200m and 400m individual medley aged above 18.
Another gold medal went to Pham Thanh Bao in the men’s 100m breaststroke aged above 18 after clocking a time of 1:01.31. Duong Van Hoang Quy pocketed a gold medal in the men's 200m individual medley aged 13 to 14 with time of 2:08.21.
At presnet the Vietnamese team are ranked fifth in the medal tally with eight gold, 12 silver, and 15 bronze medals.
The Asian Age Group Swimming Championships 2024 began on February 26 and is scheduled to last through to March 9.
Around 1,300 athletes from 31 countries from all over the world are competing in artistic swimming, diving, swimming, and water polo events.
