The Vietnamese athlete finished the competition after clocking a time of 11 minutes 9.044 seconds.
First position went to Usmonova of Uzbekistan with a time of 10 minutes 22.402 seconds, followed by Akbilek of Kazakhstan who clocked a time of 10 minutes 35.432 seconds.
Le Thi Thanh Nga qualified for the regional event after competing in the ninth National Sports Festival last year at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi.
She also ranked third at the tournament in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11 minutes 5.01 seconds, although she finished behind local stars of the Vietnamese national track-and-field team, including Nguyen Thi Oanh and Nguyen Thi Huong.
The 2023 Asian U20 Athletics Championships organised by the Asian Athletics Association is the 20th competition for Asian athletes under the age of 20. Athletes competed in a total of 44 categories running from June 4 to June 7 at the Yecheon Stadium in Yecheon.
Vietnam has sent four athletes to the tournament, namely Nguyen Quoc Thinh in the men’s high jump, Ha Thi Thuy Hang in the women’s long jump, Bui Thi Kim Anh in the women’s high jump, and Le Thi Thanh Nga in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.
