The devices that users buy from Verizon will be locked for 60 days to operate exclusively on Verizon to reduce theft or fraudulent activities. After 60 days, the lock will be removed.
The notice was released on July 19, which means that the mobile phones sold from Verizon, including iPhone, since July 19 will be covered bythe policy.
To be able to get unlocked free of charge, locked iPhones need to satisfy some requirements and the devices must be sold by Verizon. The products must not be on the black list of the network operator and they must not be reported as lost.
Currently, other network operators in the US, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, do not support the unlocking.
Quang Trung from a private iPhone shop on Cau Giay street saidthe locked iPhone market would be busy again, but predicted the selling prices would increase. If this happens, locked iPhones would not retain their advantages in comparison with international versions.
