Investigative police in Can Giuoc District in the Mekong Delta province of Long An on Sunday started legal proceedings against a man for alleged obscenity with his 10-year-old daughter.

The 46-year-old man, who lives in Phuoc Ly Commune, has been put under temporary detention.

In a video clip that was recently circulated on social media, the young girl told a woman about getting raped and hit multiple times by her father.

According to the girl, her father threatened her not to talk about the incident to anyone.

After collecting witness testimonies and conducting a medical examination of the girl, the police decided to arrest the man.

The case is under further investigation.

Earlier this month, HCM City’s Supreme Court sentenced 78-year-old Nguyen Khac Thuyto three years in prison for sexually abusing children in July 2017.

In a report submitted to the National Assembly last week, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung revealed that in the first five months of this year, there were 682 cases of child harassment, with 735 victims. At least 572 of these were cases of sexual abuse. — VNS
