On the morning of December 19, across Vietnam, 234 construction and inauguration ceremonies took place simultaneously - marking a significant milestone in the lead-up to the 14th National Party Congress.
The events were held both in-person and virtually, connected through live broadcasts at 79 locations, including 12 physical venues and 67 remote broadcast hubs.
Key highlights included: the groundbreaking of the Olympic Sports Urban Complex in Thuong Phuc Commune (Hanoi), the inauguration of several facilities and the launch of the first flights at Long Thanh International Airport (Phase 1), the groundbreaking of Component 1 of the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong railway project, and the groundbreaking of the Red River landscape boulevard in Hanoi.
Other projects commenced included the Hoa Phat Dung Quat steel and railway rail manufacturing plant in Quang Ngai and the Tan Phu – Bao Loc expressway in Lam Dong Province.
Additionally, the ceremony included the inauguration and technical launch of the Can Tho – Hau Giang – Ca Mau expressway (a segment of the North–South Expressway); the opening of the Hue International General Hospital; the groundbreaking of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural Center; and the groundbreaking of Phase 1 of the Phu Quoc urban light rail system.
In Hanoi, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) inaugurated the expansion of Terminal T2 after 18 months of construction. Meanwhile, Vietnam Railways completed the comprehensive modernization of 162 upgraded passenger coaches, enhancing national railway services.
On the same morning, construction officially began to expand the Cam Lo – La Son Expressway (98.3 km through Quang Tri and Hue), increasing its capacity from two to four lanes. The project is funded with over 6 trillion VND (250 million USD) in public investment.
Also part of the North–South expressway network, the Than Vu Tunnel project (8.2 km in length, running through Tan Chau and Than Linh communes in Nghe An Province) commenced. The project includes expansion of the main route from four to six lanes, with a roadbed width of 32.25 meters and road surface of 30.75 meters.
Upon completion, this will enhance traffic capacity on the Dien Chau – Bai Vot section, meeting increasing transport demand along this vital route.
According to the Ministry of Construction, all 234 projects meet eligibility requirements and span 34 provinces and cities. Of these, 148 are groundbreaking ceremonies and 86 are inaugurations or technical openings. They comprise 38 central government projects, 39 implemented by corporations and state-owned enterprises, and 157 led by local authorities.
Total investment in these projects exceeds 3.4 quadrillion VND (approx. 142 billion USD). Of that, 627 trillion VND (26 billion USD, or 18%) is public funding for 96 projects. The remaining 138 projects - worth over 2.79 quadrillion VND (116 billion USD) - are funded by private or alternative sources.
