In Loc Bac commune, Bao Lam district in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, survives the only remaining long traditional house of the Ma ethnic group.
Even 63-year-old Ka Dit, the owner, cannot remember when the house was constructed. It was there since the first day she became a member of her husband’s family.
The house has a wooden frame and bamboo-tiled floor under a thatched roof. Inside the traditional house. A holy space inside the house called ‘Nao’, which is used to store valuable gongs and jars. ’Dor’ – the space for drying corn and rice. Preparing a jar of ‘Can’ wine (wine drunk out of a jar via wooden bamboo pipes) to welcome guests to the house.
Daily activities of the Ma people often take place around the house. Women pounding rice in front of the house Sleeping on the back of beloved grandmother. A moment of reflection for the house’s owner Ka Dit.
