President Tran Dai Quang had paid state visits to many countries in the world to foster cooperation between Vietnam and international friends.
President Quang’s trip to Egypt on August 25-28, 2018 was the first official visit by a head of the Vietnamese State since both nations established diplomatic ties in 1963. The visit was made after the trip to Vietnam by Egyptian President Fatah El Sisi in 2017 which witnessed a lot of remarkable achievements. During the visit, the two sides reaffirmed commitments reached in 2017 by senior leaders in the aim of actualizing new areas of cooperation. President Quang and his wife paid a State visit to Ethiopia on August 23-25, 2018 at the invitation of Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome. This was the first trip to Ethiopia by a head of the Vietnamese State since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1976. The visit to Ethiopia aimed to reaffirm Vietnam’s persistent pursuance of its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation, and diversification of international relations. Vietnam has always placed importance on enhancing traditional friendship with African countries in general, and Ethiopia in particular. The Vietnamese state leader and his wife paid an official visit to Russia from June 28 to July 1, 2018 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the visit, President Quang held talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and met with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, leader of the Russian Federation Communist Party (KPRF) Gennady Zyuganov, Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin and Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko. Mr Quang met the overseas Vietnamese community at the Hanoi-Moscow multifunctional complex, laid wreaths at Ho Chi Minh Square in Moscow and paid floral tribute to the revolutionary leader Vladimir I. Lenin at his mausoleum. Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko hosted an official welcoming ceremony for President Quang and his wife at the Tokyo Imperial Palace on the morning of May 30, 2018. President Quang’s visit aimed to consolidate the close relationship and political trust between senior leaders of Vietnam and Japan, thus propelling the bilateral extensive strategic partnership forward. Mr Quang paid an official visit to India from March 2-4 at the invitation of Indian President Ram Nath Kovind. President Quang, his wife, Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the welcome ceremony. After concluding the visit to India, Mr Quang paid a three-day State visit to Bangladesh from March 4-6, 2018 at the invitation of Bangladeshi President Mohammad Abdul Hamid. An official welcome ceremony with a 21-gun salute was held at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, welcoming President Quang and his entourage in the presence of Bangladeshi President Mohammad Abdul Hamid and the Vietnamese Embassy staff. The Vietnamese state leader visited Belarus on June 26-28, 2017 at the invitation of President Alexander Lukashenko. A 21-gun salute was accorded to President Quang and his wife at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on May 11, 2017 to welcome the Vietnamese leader to China. At the talks with the Chinese Party General Secretary and President of China, Xi Jinping, the Vietnamese State leader asked the two sides to stringently implement the common perceptions and reached agreements and commitments, in particular the agreement on the basic principles guiding the settlement of issues at sea, soundly manage the dispute and not take any action to complicate and expand the dispute. The Vietnamese President met with Cuban leader Fidel Castro during his three-day official visit to Cuba on November 15-17, 2016. President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers Raul Castro welcomed Mr Quang and the Vietnamese delegation. Mr Quang visited Singapore on August 28-30, 2016 at the invitation of his Singaporean counterpart Tony Tan Keng Yam. On August 26, 2016, President Quang arrived in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital city of Brunei beginning a three-day State visit to the country. Mr Quang paid his three-day State visit to Laos on June 12-14, 2016 at the invitation of Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith. After concluding the Laos visit, the Vietnamese state leader visited Cambodia on June 15-16, 2015 at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.
