Military team’s Luat won the men’s race that circuited Hoan Kiem Lake five times over 8,750m.

It is the fifth time that Luat, a member of the national team, has topped the podium.

He was followed by Vu Van Son from Ninh Binh and Le Trung Duc of Thanh Hoa.

Hue of Quang Ninh, also a national team runner, won the women’s race of 5,250m - three laps - around the lake.

Her teammate Doan Thu Hang came second while Thai Binh Province’s Ngo Thi Khanh Ny was third.

The organisers also presented 10 gold medals for different categories including students, workers and foreigners.

The event is in its 46th year. This year saw a record of more than 400,000 participants in the qualifying rounds. On Sunday, nearly 1,500 athletes ran in the final. About VND50 million (US$2,200) collected from the tournament has been donated to the city’s Fund for the Poor.
