In the second day of the Tay Ninh province’s tournament, No. 1 seed Ly Hoang Nam had a favourable opening match when meeting underdog Lam Hoang Nam. The big difference in class helped the Tay Ninh native quickly claim a 6-1, 6-1 win to go forward.

In the quarterfinals, slated for Thursday, Nam will face Tat Thai Nguyen, who beat Nguyen Le Minh Hau 6-1, 6-2 to progress to the last eight.

Trịnh Linh Giang also confirmed the power of the No. 2 seed by beating Tran Minh Dang 6-1, 6-1, while No. 3 seed Hoang Thanh Trung also earned a ticket to the quarterfinals with ease after defeating junior Huynh Minh Thinh 6-1, 6-0.

The most remarkable match of the day was the encounter between Pham Minh Tuan and No. 4 seed Daniel Nguyen. Vietnamese American tennis player Daniel Nguyen easily won the first set, however, in the second set, the 1990 born player seemed to falter due to the hot weather in Tay Ninh. Minh Tuan fight back to level the score, but, with the level of a top 200 ATP player, Daniel rose up again to seal his victory 6-2, 2-4, 7-5. This defeat means Minh Tuan will now only have the opportunity to compete in the doubles with Le Quoc Khanh.

There were no surprises in the women's singles as No. 1 seed Phan Thi Thanh Binh easily defeated her junior Nguyen Minh Thuy Hang 6-1, 6-0. Tran Thuy Thanh Truc surpassed her teammate Phan Nhu Quynh, of Hung Thinh - Ho Chi Minh City team, with a score of 6-2, 6-2, and Tran Thi Thanh Thanh also won against teammate Pham Thi Dong Trinh, from Kien Giang province team, 6-1, 0-6, 6-3.

The third day of the tournament today will see competitions in the Round of 16 of the men's doubles and Round 1 of the women's doubles.

Held jointly by the Vietnam Tennis Federation (VTF), Tay Ninh provincial Department of Culture and Sports and Hai Dang JSC, the tournament has a total prize of up to VND500 million (nearly US$22,000), with the competition running until March 10.
