Top tennis player Ly Hoang Nam has climbed seven places to the 870th spot in the ATP world rankings despite not having played any matches during the past two weeks.

This is the second time this year Nam has ascended to the 870th slot, the best position of any Vietnamese player in the history of the sport.

Nam and his three male colleagues – Nguyen Dac Tien, Nguyen Hoang Thien, and Pham Minh Tuan – are currently in Nonthaburi, Thailand preparing for play-off matches against the host of the Davis Cup Group II Asia-Oceania.

The winner will advance to compete against the winner of the match between the Philippines and Chinese Taipei. The two finalists will also seal their berths to play in Group I next year.
