The feature phone market in Vietnam still has vitality with the availability of brands such as Nokia, Masstel, Mobell, Energizer and Itel.
In Vietnam, feature phones are called ‘cuc gach’, or ‘bricks’, as they are big and heavy.
Most recently, the Vietnamese brand Masstel launched two feature phones, named Masstel Lux 10 and Masstel Lux, with starting prices from VND700,000. They are the two cheapest feature phone models in the market.
In addition to basic features of a mobile phone, making calls and receiving calls, the two models have in common have big function keys, a simple interface, and are easy to use, with calendars and weather forecast bulletins.
While Masstel Lux 10 battery has a capacity of 1,400 mAh, Masstel Lux 20 battery has a capacity of up to 1,800 mAh, a huge capacity when compared with feature phone products. The two products have enough power to be equipped with a super bright flashlight.
Masstel Lux 10 and Masstel Lux 20 are among the cheapest available in the market. The integration of 4G allows VoLTE calls with the conversation quality better than traditional feature phones.
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) is planning to stop 2G by 2023 and increase the number of smartphone users. The popularity of smartphones will also help speed up digital transformation.
However, some disadvantaged people in society such as older people, the disabled and people with limited knowledge may find it difficult to adapt to these changes.
In addition, there are many people who want to use a feature phone together with their smartphone to ensure high information security. Therefore, the demand for feature phones will still exist.
The presence of feature phones with 4G will help satisfy the demand of this group of people.
