The frequent traffic jams on the street have been attributed to the construction of buildings along the street along with a sharp increase in the number of cars.
According to deputy head of Hanoi Department of Transport Ngo Manh Tuan, the project to expand the street will see the 17-metre median strip on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street cut to 4.5 metres to expand on the current four lanes. Trees grown on the median strip will be also relocated.
