According to MMEA vice commander Sedili Sanifah Yusof, the arrested fishermen age between 16 and 51 and have no ID papers.
The vessel carried over 10 tonnes of fish of various kinds, including 900kg of dried cuttlefish and six tonnes of ‘trash’ fish, he said, adding that the fish was supposedly caught in Malaysian waters.
An investigation into the incident is underway, he said.
He added that MMEA will strengthen efforts to prevent foreign ships from illegally fishing in the country’s waters.
