Khanh Nam is currently a third-year student at the School of Management and Business, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Recently, he and his teammates won the championship of “The New Generation of Students,” a nationwide annual reality television program for university students that encourages creativity, social responsibility, and action-oriented capacity among young people.
With a mother who is a teacher in special education, Nam had often heard stories about children with differences. Witnessing their disadvantages gradually led him to care deeply about vulnerable groups.
“I have always cherished the idea of building a positive inclusive environment for young people facing psychological issues,” Nam said.
To realize this desire, Nam participated in training courses and obtained certificates related to psychology to better understand children with special needs.
After obtaining the certificates, with professional companionship and support from his mother, Nam established a special psychological education center in Ba Dinh (Hanoi) and took on the role of manager.
He said this center is not “purely for business” but aims at community values. About 25-30 percent of the profits is used to support children in special circumstances, those with autism, or other psychological issues.
“My wish is to create a model sustainable enough to exist, but also humane enough to create real value,” Nam said.
One of the moments that led to his chosen path was witnessing a student come to the center who “could not sit still.” After a period of persistent support and companionship, the boy is now in second grade and ranks in the top 5 excellent students of his class.
In addition to his work at the center, Khanh Nam maintains his academic performance at school and actively participates in community activities and student competitions.
Recently, Khanh Nam and his teammates won the championship of the "New Generation Students" program. Contestants not only have to show their academic achievements but are required to create real value for society.
The project that helped Nam and his teammates win was “Rising with Digital Platforms” – an initiative to train digital skills and online business safety for people with disabilities.
“People with disabilities do not lack skills. They only lack a door to enter the digital economy,” Nam said.
The project focuses on equipping basic and practical digital technology skills such as writing product descriptions, filming and editing videos, livestreaming, and operating e-commerce booths, along with skills to prevent risks in cyberspace.
The project has accompanied about 40 people with disabilities, helping many become confident in front of the camera to introduce and sell products on digital platforms.
In addition to skill training, the group hopes to spread a message of equality. No matter who you are or how different you may be, everyone has value and can contribute to society, he said.
Not long after the victory at "New Generation Students," Khanh Nam was crowned King of the "Vietnamese Student Beauty" contest. According to Nam, in the digital age, a “comprehensively beautiful student” is shown through appearance but also through intellect, character, courage, and adaptability.
“Beside knowledge, students need a correct life attitude, know how to respect others, have responsibility for the community, and spread positivity,” Nam said.
The beauty of today's students lies in living with goals, depth, and responsibility. Nam also emphasized the responsibility and courage of the new generation of students in solving social problems with modern and sustainable thinking.
With his achievements in academics and social activities, on January 31, at the “HSB Village Festival,” Hoang Dinh Phi, the Rector of the business school at VNU, declared that he would award a full master's scholarship to Nam. Khanh Nam intends to pursue a Master’s degree in Talent Development Management after graduation.
