The surgeon took the fish outside the patient's throat.

Dr. Hoang Van Tuyen, from Thanh Hoa Hospital, said the hospital had just rescued patient Le Van Hanh, 54 years old, from Quang Tho commune, Sam Son Town, whose trachea was blocked by a small anabas.

It is reported that on the morning of July 15, Hanh went fishing on a field near his house.

He caught an anabas. As his hands were busy with the net and he did not have anything to hold the fish, he held the anabas in his mouth.

The fish struggled and slipped into his mouth, drifting down to the windpipe. Hanh could not breathe and his body turned pale.

Thankfully, a farmer saw him and called others to take the man to the hospital.

Dr. Tuyen said the patient was hospitalized in critical condition. His heart stopped beating, and he lost reflexes.

Doctor urgently opened the trachea to take the fish out and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

"After about 15 minutes, the heart beat again. Nevertheless, the patient is still in critical condition because the brain is in difficult recovery," Dr. Tuyen said.
