According to local people, the man who comes from a poor family in the area is an experienced forest hunter. He is coming to the forest to pick leaves which are used for wrapping the traditional Tet's Chung cakes.
A representative from Que Phong District's forest ranger team confirmed that there was no bear farm in the area so the man must have been attacked by a wild bear.
"There are Tibetan and Malayan bears in Pu Huong Forest which are some 60-70 kilos each," he said. "Although there are a very small number of them left, people should be careful while going by this area. Hunting is forbidden."
