The children are being treated at Can Tho Provincial Children's Hospital

Director of Can Tho Provincial Children's Hospital, Tran Van De, told DTiNews on January 11 that the three children who had been admitted with pesticide poisoning on January 9 are recovering.

“They now have fewer convulsions but still need further monitoring as pesticide poisoning usually leave effects on the brain," De said.

The father, Luong Hong Son, 39, has also recovered and has just been discharged from Can Tho Provincial General Hospital.

Talking to local authorities, Son admitted that as he was angry with his wife, he decided to kill his children and himself with pesticide.

According to police reports, Son worked as a xe om taxi driver and had four children with his wife Nguyen Thi Kim Lien. Due to financial difficulties, Lien left for Ho Chi Minh City a month ago to earn money.

On January 8, Lien returned home and took their 13-year-old daughter to Ho Chi Minh City with her, which her husband did not agree with.

The same evening, Son put pesticide to four cups of juice for three small children and himself.

Son's mother who lives nearby heard the cries of the children, aged ten, seven and five, and rushed them to hospital.
