Police from the northern mountainous province of Lang Son on Wednesday said they have arrested a man near Hoang Dong Commune for illegally transporting 73 cakes of heroin.

The accused, Luong Van Thieu, 28, a resident of Bao Lam Commune, was caught red-handed on Tuesday while driving a motorbike without a registered number plate on the stretch of National Highway No 1A running through Hoang Dong Commune.

Thiệu admitted that he had been hired by a man to transport the heroin, but said he did not know anything about the man. Investigations are going on.
