Some 2,000 Vietnamese children face violence and abuse annually.

Do Van Huong, 58, has been put into temporary detention.

The police said on Thursday they had gathered substantial information, evidence and witnesses to charge Huong for committing the atrocity upon some students of Dong Hoa Primary School in Kim Bảng District’s Dong Hoa Commune where he worked as a security guard.

Earlier, parents of many students of the school filed complaints with local authorities about Huong sexually abusing the students.

The school management board has temporarily suspended his work.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs estimates that some 2,000 Vietnamese children face violence and abuse annually, of whom 1,200 suffer sexual abuse.

Among these, more than 13 per cent are girls below the age of six.
