A young man who fell into a 50-metre-deep hole in Hà Giang Province was rescued nearly 10 hours after the accident.

The incident occurred at about 9:40am on Monday at the Statue of Youth Volunteer area in Pải Lủng Commune.

After dropping tourists off for sightseeing, a car fell about 14m, colliding with the young man who was standing nearby and sweeping him into the sinkhole, according to witnesses at the scene.

The victim was identified as Thò Mí Ly, 21 years old, living in Má Páng Village, Đồng Văn Town, Đồng Văn District.

The victim is found alive nearly 10 hours after the accident.

Chairman of Mèo Vạc District People's Council, Vương Ngọc Hà, said she went to the scene to direct the rescue forces to rescue the man.

The rescue forces located and pumped oxygen into the area the victim was trapped.

Hà Giang Provincial Police Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue also sent officers, soldiers and vehicles to the scene, and deployed the rescue plan.

Despite difficult conditions and the complicated terrain of the mountainous area, after more than nine hours, at 18:45 on the same day, the rescue force brought the victim to a safe place, performed first aid and took him to Đồng Văn District General Hospital for further treatment. — VNS
