The rains have stopped after being affected by the recent Typhoon Bebinca, but the water level of Lam River has continued rising due to water discharges from the hydropower reservoirs. It is also blamed for the big amount of water which flows from the upper reaches of Lam River into downstream.

Ky Son, Thanh Chuong, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong and Anh Son are among localities flooded the most.

Up to 53 households and kiosks have been submerged and many have moved to safe places. Meanwhile, 85 hectares of rice and dozens of hectares of different crops have been completely ruined.

Nguyen Van Que, chairman of Thanh Chuong District People’s Committee, said that 11 local communes have faced flooding, including four which are totally isolated. As a result, 365 have been relocated to ensure safety and up to 3,600 hectares of crops have been damaged, bringing a total loss of VND65 billion (USD2.95 million).
