Representatives of local airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Jetstar Pacific said that because of the high frequency of flights before the Lunar New Year and the impact of wind direction, sometimes only one runway could be used, resulting in congestion.

Statistics of the Tan Son Nhat Airport show that the number of passengers has soared in recent days. On February 3, there were 686 flights arriving and leaving the airport compared to 629 on January 30, an increase of 17.8% over the same period last year.

The number of passenger also rose from 82,642 on January 28 to 83,452 on February 2, up 18.7% over the last year.

A representative of Vietnam Airlines, which has the highest number of flights during the peak hour, said that many flights had to land and take off late.

Local air carriers said that during the Tet season, despite their efforts in cooperating with the airport authorities to diminish flight delay, due to infrastructure overload, this situation continues.
