On October 13, the Economic Police Department - HCMC Police temporarily detained DJ Ngan 98 (real name Vo Thi Ngoc Ngan) to investigate the crime of producing and trading counterfeit food products under Article 193 of the Penal Code.
Since 2021, Ngan 98 has sold several weight-loss dietary supplements, using “free gift” labeling to distribute another product called “vegetable collagen pills.”
In reality, she sold them as a full treatment package, generating hundreds of billions of VND in revenue. Some collagen pill samples contained banned substances and ingredients harmful to consumer health.
Ten days later, the HCMC Police issued a decision to prosecute singer-musician Luong Bang Quang and DJ Ngan 98 to investigate the crime of giving bribes.
The expanded investigation determined that after authorities detected violations in July 2024, Luong Bang Quang and Ngan 98 paid VND8 billion to an acquaintance seeking help to avoid legal consequences.
Police also clarified Luong Bang Quang’s role in Ngan 98’s fake weight-loss supplement business.
Specifically, business operations through ZuBu were directly managed by Ngan, while cash flow from the ZuBu Shop household business was controlled by Luong Bang Quang.
With Ngan 98’s strong social media influence, sales volume was huge, generating hundreds of billions of VND annually, meaning Luong Bang Quang held a significant role.
Additionally, during the investigation, Luong Bang Quang showed evasiveness and lack of cooperation, obstructing the investigation.
