A fire broke out in a market in southern Kien Giang Province’s Dong Thai Commune early Thursday morning, killing three people and burning down four houses nearby.

A fire in a market kills three people in southern Kien Giang Province. 

At 1am this morning, the market caught fire, which quickly spread to surrounding areas.

The commune’s People’s Committee and the provincial Fire Control and Fighting Police Department have sent five fire trucks to the scene.

The fire was stamped out three hours later.

Vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Mai Anh Nhin and leaders of local authorities rushed to the scene to monitor the situation and paid visits to victims’ families.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Binh Dinh Province’s Hoai Nhon District functional forces began investigating the fire on three boats at Tam Quan mooring area on Thursday.

At 10.30pm on Wednesday, a patrol team of the Tam Quan Nam border guard force detected three fishing boats on fire.

The boats are owned by Trần Tiến Thành from Tam Quan Bac Commune’s Tan Thành 1 Ward, Tran Chin from Tam Quan Bac Commune’s Thien Chanh 1 and Vo Ngoc Do from Hoai Hai Commnue’s Kim Giao Trung.

The patrol team and residents tried to put out the fire and called the firefighting force. Four fire trucks with 50 firefighters were mobilised to control the fire.

At 3.30am on Thursday, the fire was extinguished, however, all the cabins and fishing gear were destroyed.

At 5am on the same day, one of the boats began burning again. The firefighting force took an hour to put out the fire.
