Mauro Jeronimo resigns after a disappointing run of results.

Portuguese coach Mauro Jeronimo has officially parted ways with Nam Dinh after a dismal run of 10 consecutive matches without a win in the V-League 2025/26.

“Nam Dinh Steel FC would like to express our sincere gratitude to head coach Mauro Jeronimo for his dedication, efforts and contributions to the team. During his tenure, he demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility, professionalism and wholehearted commitment to his work. We wish him every success in the journey ahead,” the club announced on the morning of June 26.

The decision came in the wake of a narrow defeat to The Cong Viettel in a rescheduled Round 10 clash of the LPBank V-League. Following the loss at Hang Day Stadium, the Portuguese tactician had insisted that Nam Dinh would bounce back strongly and set a target of defeating Ninh Binh in Round 14 this weekend. However, Mauro Jeronimo ultimately chose to resign, and the club’s leadership accepted his decision.

Jeronimo took charge of Nam Dinh in November 2025, succeeding Vu Hong Viet. Under his guidance, Xuan Son and his teammates endured a forgettable spell. The reigning V-League champions have gone 10 matches without victory in the domestic top flight, slipping to 10th place on the table with 12 points, trailing leaders CAHN by 20 points while having played one game more.

Given their current standing and points tally, Nam Dinh’s hopes of defending their V-League crown are now virtually extinguished. In a bid to halt the slide and spark a turnaround, the club have opted for a change in leadership.

According to information from Nam Dinh Steel FC, Vu Hong Viet will return to the helm. The former assistant to Park Hang Seo first took charge of the club in August 2022, inheriting a side that sat 12th out of 13 teams after 13 rounds. Born in 1979, he guided Nam Dinh to safety with one match to spare.

Vu Hong Viet later oversaw the most successful period in the club’s history. He led Nam Dinh to the V-League 2023/24 title and lifted the 2024 Super Cup. In the 2024/25 season, the 1979-born coach once again steered the team to a successful V-League title defense.
