HCM City is speeding up its vaccination campaign which aims to vaccinate at least 70 percent of adults aged from 18 in August. From July 22 to August 1, 3,131,644 people were vaccinated.
Since August 1, Ward 1 of Tan Binh District, for example, has organized immunization campaigns with 9,500 people having been vaccinated.
Local authorities report that 28 individuals could not get injections because they could not come to the immunization sites.
So, a mobile immunization team was set up to serve people at their homes.
According to Phan Hoang Oanh, Deputy Chair of Ward 1, most of the 28 cases are older people who have difficulty traveling.
“We want to give vaccinations to all people who can meet the requirements,” Oanh said.
Vaccines are put in protective boxes with thermometers inside to be sure they are protected at right temperature. The local authorities also send an ambulance to handle emergency cases after immunization.
The mobile team comprises a doctor, the head of the ward’s medical unit and a medical worker. The doctor conducts a medical examination and measures blood pressure to determine if people can meet the requirements for vaccination. After that, the medical staff will give injection and they will stay with the people for 30 minutes before leaving.
The doctor and medical staff provide their telephone numbers so that people can call them if they need advice.
“Some people don’t agree because their relatives have worries about their health condition. We respect their decisions. People have the right to decide whether they will get a vaccination,” said Dr Nguyen Thanh Tri.
“Meanwhile, elderly people said they are happy because they can have vaccination,” Tri said. “The program was organized on August 14 and 15 and all the injected people are in good health condition."
“Older people are very glad. At first, they felt sad because they thought they would not have the opportunity to access vaccination because some of them have to stay in bed and can't move,” Oanh said.
Ngo Tuan Minh, 60, is one of the 14 people who was served by the mobile team. He lives alone and has a leg disability, and has to use a wheelchair. He was happy that he could get the vaccine at his home.
