In Can Tho City, an estimated 1,024 women are married to Koreans while 116 workers went to work in that country, according to Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) newspaper.

Standing Vice Chairman of the city Women’s Union, Vo Kim Thoa, said the association is looking for women from Can Tho currently living in Korea.

“When all the data is in, we will check out if they have returned to Vietnam and apprise them about quarantine regulations for people coming back from epidemic areas and provide other necessary information.”

Isolation zone

Can Tho has created a concentrated isolation zone for people coming from China and other countries suffering from the COVID-19 outbreak.

The site, at the city Military School, can accommodate 250 to 300 people.

Colonel Trinh Hoai Van, deputy commander of the city Military Command, said so far two people who came back from Daegu and North Gyeongsang regions of Korea have been sent there.

According to Cao Minh Chu, director of the city Department of Health, all passengers arriving on international flight, especially from Korea, have to make medical declarations.

The airport has installed more body temperature scanners and hand-held devices as well as sufficient human resources, he said.

City authorities have also sought temperature screening on domestic flights in case people coming from epidemic areas took connecting flights.

Hau Giang Province has five isolation areas that can accommodate around 700 people.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dong Van Thanh said a hotline has been established for Vietnamese returning from places with the COVID-19 outbreak.

It has also apprised families whose members live overseas about how serious the epidemic situation is so that those returning home would co-operate with authorities. — VNS
