Officially starting its operation in Cambodia on February 19, 2009, the company immediately owned the biggest telecom infrastructure, providing services to all 25 provinces and cities in the host country.
Two years later, it captured the largest share of the market, at 48 percent, and kept the figure until today. The firm recovered all of initial investment after four years working there.
By the end of 2018, Viettel obtained a dividend yield of 250 million USD from Metfone, nearly six times higher than the initial capital it poured in the subsidiary.
Viettel Standing Chairman Le Dang Dung said as the group’s first venture overseas, Metfone has been modernized with advanced technologies like 5G, artificial intelligent, virtual reality, and big data.
At a recent ceremony celebrating its 10th establishment anniversary, Metfone was bestowed upon with a first-class labour order of the Cambodian Royal Government for its contributions to the country and the local telecom sector.-VNA
