Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man speaks at the opening ceremony of the seventh National Assembly session in Hanoi on May 20

Mr. Tran Thanh Man, standing vice chairman of the legislature, said at the opening ceremony of the session held in Hanoi on May 20 that lawmaking will be the focal point of the 26-and-a-half-day sitting, with a total of 24 bills and draft resolutions set to be debated.

This represents the largest number of legal documents which have been examined so far at a session of the current 15th tenure of the legislature, in which NA deputies are anticipated to consider and pass 10 bills and three draft resolutions, while also giving opinions on 11 other bills, said the legislator.

He went on to state that the NA will discuss the Government’s reports on socio-economic development and budgetary tasks, along with approving the 2022 state budget settlement.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the legislature requested that the deputies make a comprehensive analysis of all relevant issues, including experience in management, execution, and forecast, as well as solutions, taking into account new impacts and difficulties arising due to complex developments occurring locally, regionally, and globally.

High on the agenda, according to Man, is the election of the chairman of the legislature and the State president of Vietnam, as well as the ratification of members of the National Defense and Security Council.

The deputies are scheduled to work on high-level personnel work of the State apparatus from May 20 to May 22, during which time they will first elect the leader of the legislature and then the State president.

He therefore asked deputies to work to promote democracy and uphold a high sense of responsibility in discussions aimed at meeting socio-economic development requirements, ensuring both national defence and security, and living up to the expectations of voters and citizens nationwide.

The mid-year NA session is scheduled to be divided into two phases, with the first phase lasting from May 20 to June 8, and the second phase running from June 17 to June 28.

The deputies will spend a total of two and a half days grilling the five heads of ministries and ministerial agencies over issues of voter concerns.

The pressing issues will be focused on major fields such as resources and the environment, audits, industry and trade, culture-sport-tourism, and education-training.
