Team MTA–R4F from the Military Technical Academy are the champions of the Digital Race 2018-2019 |
Organized by FPT Corporation and Vietnam Television (VTV), the final round of the contest, under the theme “Programming self-driving vehicles”, was held in Hanoi on May 25.
This competition attracted teams from leading universities and educational institutions such as University of Engineering and Technology, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Lac Hong University, Military Technical Academy, Nha Trang University, Far Eastern Federal University in Russia, and University of Greenwich in the UK.
Winning the competition, team MTA–R4F received several prizes worth VND1.2 billion in total, including a one-week trip to the U.S. to learn about advanced technologies, VND15 million in cash, an automotive scholarship worth VND20 million for each member, and an artificial intelligence scholarship worth VND700 million for the best member.
Team Fast & Fiery from the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology were the runners-up and pocketed VND15 million in cash.
The organizers also awarded two third prizes worth VND10 million each to team LHU Thewalker from Lac Hong University and team CDSNTU2 from Nha Trang University, VND50 million for the university of the champions, and a laptop valued at VND20 million for the coach of the champions.
In the final round, the teams were required to use image processing, artificial intelligence and other technologies to program their vehicles, which had to overcome obstacles in inconstant lighting conditions, find the shortest path, and move at high speed.
The Digital Race aims to boost research on automation technology in Vietnam and create a playground for students to get access to the latest technologies in the world.
This was the third edition of the competition. Last year’s contest drew more than 800 students from 32 universities across the country, with team UET Fastest from University of Engineering and Technology - Vienam National University Hanoi named the champions. SGT
