VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Information and Communications has proposed to invest VND8,000 billion ($363 million) into a target program on information technology in 2016-2020.

The objective of this program is to promote the application and development of information technology in three areas: development of the IT industry, promoting IT application, and information security development.

According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung, if this program is implemented, by 2020 all ministries, ministerial-level agencies, state agencies of all provinces and cities will have a sharing, integrated platform; 30% of administrative tasks of local governments to be processed online at level 4; and over 50% of administrative records exchanged between one-stop agencies to go online.

Regarding information security, the program will help remove Vietnam from the list of 20 countries with the highest infection rates of malware in the world; over 80% of information systems from level 3 or more of local governments will be protected in line with standards; 100% online public services at level 4 will have electronic authentication solutions; and at least 50% of the electronic portals of centrally-governed provinces and cities will be under safety monitoring.

For the IT industry, from now to 2020 Vietnam will build at least seven IT parks. At the same time, the program will support research and development of at least three electronic hardware products in the fields of IC, semiconductor chips and at least 6 platform products used in government agencies and society and at least one digital content products in service of state agencies.
