The ministry said media and local residents have recently reported projects built in the city of Ha Long that have affected the environment of the bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, online newspaper vietnamplus.vn reported.
The projects – including Tuan Chau tourism area, cruise docks at Me Cung and Tien Ong caves – have violated environmental protection rules.
The local government was also instructed to review new proposals as well as ongoing projects.
Quang Ninh Province also needs to strengthen inspections of compliance with environmental protection and address violations.
The province was asked to report results of its inspections to the ministry before August 25.
