Amid persistent hot weather, several localities stretching from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri recorded temperatures close to 40C, including Tinh Gia at 39.8C, Huong Khe at 39.5C, and both Vinh and Con Cuong at 39.3C. The ministry has now instructed local authorities to strengthen forest fire prevention and firefighting measures.

According to forecasts, the combined impact of climate change and the developing El Nino pattern is expected to prolong the severe heatwave, further heightening wildfire risks.

In response, the ministry has asked provinces and cities nationwide to continue implementing forest fire prevention measures under previous directives already issued by the government.

Authorities have been instructed to tighten inspections and monitoring in high-risk forest areas while reviewing and updating fire prevention and response plans for forest owners and relevant units in accordance with current regulations.

Local governments are also required to prepare sufficient personnel, supplies, equipment and logistical support to ensure emergency response teams remain on standby for potential forest fire incidents.

The ministry additionally called for stronger public awareness campaigns on forestry laws and wildfire prevention in an effort to improve community responsibility in protecting forests.

Particular attention is being placed on controlling and guiding the use of fire in and around forested areas, especially slash-and-burn farming activities, vegetation clearing and other practices that could potentially trigger wildfires.

In addition, the ministry urged stronger coordination among police, military forces and forest rangers in forest protection and wildfire response efforts. In the event of a fire, local authorities must quickly mobilize firefighting forces, address the aftermath and strictly handle violations linked to forest fires.
