Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training has not yet decided whether candidates at Tuyen Quang High School for the Gifted will be allowed to retake the mathematics examination.

The ministry said that, based on the national examination regulations, the findings and disciplinary actions taken by the Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Committee, the conclusions of relevant investigative authorities and a comprehensive assessment of the case's broader impact, it will determine the most appropriate course of action.

Any decision, the ministry said, will ensure objectivity, fairness, transparency and compliance with the law while also reflecting the humanitarian principles of education and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of candidates.

MOET emphasized that its guiding principle is to ensure that students with genuine academic ability are not disadvantaged in their educational opportunities while preserving the integrity, fairness and credibility of Vietnam's national high school graduation examination.

Earlier, during a press conference on the 2026 national high school graduation examination in Tuyen Quang Province, Hoang Minh Canh, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Education and Training, said that immediately after irregularities involving the mathematics examination at Tuyen Quang High School for the Gifted came to light, the department worked with the school to meet all Grade 12 students, their parents and independent candidates who had taken the examination at the site.

The meetings were held to provide information about the incident, listen to concerns and collect the candidates' views.

According to the survey results, all 322 parents representing students who took the examination at the site, along with all six independent candidates, supported organizing a mathematics re-examination to ensure fairness, objectivity and transparency while protecting candidates' legitimate rights and interests.

Based on those recommendations and current regulations, the provincial Department of Education and Training submitted a report to the Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Committee, requesting that it ask MOET to consider organizing a mathematics re-examination for all candidates at the examination site.

The department also proposed that the ministry adopt measures to ensure that university and college admissions schedules would not be disrupted, thereby safeguarding candidates' educational opportunities and legitimate interests.
