VietNamNet Bridge - Many old villas worth millions of USD in downtown HCM City have not been repaired for decades so even though they are expensive, living there is unpleasant.
The old villa at No. 5, Le Cong Kieu Street in District 1, HCM City has been abandoned for nearly a year although it is located in the city's golden land. Looking from outside, the disrepair of this villa is clear.
This was one of the villas owned by a famous Chinese-Vietnamese entrepreneur in the past. It was built in the 1903s.
After the city’s liberation in 1975, the house belonged to a Chinese family. The house was then used by many families.
At present this house is unused. Some vendors sometimes live there.
Another million USD villa, located next to the Cho Lon central post office, at the corner of Nguyen Thi, Hai Thuong Lan Ong.
Currently there are 6 households living in this house. The old villa is also in very bad state.
Local residents said they always live in fear in this old house, especially in the rainy season.
An old villa on An Duong Vuong Road that was built during the French-colonial period and has not been repaired since then. Currently, this house is home to at least 20 people who are employees of the HCMC University of Pedagogy.

This villa was recently sold to Minerva JSC for $35 million. The new owner wanted to break down the old house to build a new one but this task is impossible at present due to regulations on preservation of old architecture works. Built over 100 years ago and one of several French-style villas in Saigon today, house number 237 on No Trang Long Street in HCM City’s Binh Thanh District was recently dismantled for the construction of a new villa. However the local authorities stopped it. |
