MobiFone has begun a pilot project to provide a new 4G service in certain parts of Hanoi, HCMC and Danang.

MobiFone lists on its website at www.mobifone.com.vn the places where customers can subscribe to 4G service for free.

Customers in HCMC can visit the firm’s shops in districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 and Tan Binh while the service is available at designated venues in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem, Dong Da, Ba Dinh and Cau Giay districts and Danang’s Hai Chau, Ngu Hanh Son, Thanh Tra and Son Khe districts.

MobiFone said 3G subscribers can use 4G simcards for the new service or buy Data Plus 4G packages at monthly charges of VND120,000 (US$5.39) to VND600,000 (US$26.95).

The new 4G packages come with promotions like free same-network calls and texts.

Viettel has test provided 4G service in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province while VinaPhone has test run 4G service in HCMC and on Phu Quoc Island off mainland Kien Giang Province.

FPT Telecom has got approval to test run 4G service as well.

MobiFone has also launched pay TV service MobiTV. The mobile carrier targets to become a major provider of telecommunications, information and technology, TV and retail services.
