From March 2023, the Mong Cai - Dongxing international border gate (Bac Luan II bridge area) has been allowed to perform import-export procedures for food goods from Vietnam and ASEAN countries to Guangxi province of China.

In particular, from December 6, 2023, the Dongxing border gate (Bac Luan II bridge area) has been permitted to carry out import procedures for three more items: Imported frozen seafood, aquatic animals used as imported food, and imported plant varieties.

Mong Cai city is building Van Ninh General Port in phase 1, which is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2024. Once completed, the port will be a transit point for agricultural products from the South to the North of Vietnam for export to China through open border gates in Mong Cai city.

This will make an important contribution to promoting trade and import-export activities between the two cities of Mong Cai and Dongxing in particular and the two countries of Vietnam and China in general.

Currently, Mong Cai City focuses on prioritizing breakthrough industries and products under four pillars: Logictis, e-commerce; tourism; processing and manufacturing industry, with priority given to developing the textile and garment industry, food and beverage production, and component production; high-tech agriculture.

With a strategic vision, Quang Ninh province in general and Mong Cai city in particular have cooperated with many leading consulting corporations in the world to design strategic plans to realize the policy of developing the Mong Cai border gate economic zone, in which Mong Cai city becomes a dynamic area, a pole of dynamic economic growth of the Red River Delta and an economic development center on the coastal economic belt of the Gulf of Tonkin; building the Mong Cai border gate economic zone as a free economic zone, with modern services and industry, sustainable development actively contributing to the process of international integration.
