Thousands of fish have been found dead in Hanoi’s Linh Dam Lake since October 26.

The dead fish have littered the two-kilometre lake bank, causing a very bad smell.

Mai Anh Tuan who lives near Linh Dam Lake said he and his wife often walked around the lake, but yesterday evening, they suddenly saw lots of dead fish on the water surface along with a terrible odour.

The dead fish includes different kinds such as butterfish and carp weighing 5-6 kilogrammes.

Some local residents said that late on October 26, they saw a group of some men coming to the lake to collect the dead fish. The men said some people had hired them to transport the fish which would be used to make fertilizer.

Police visited the lake early this morning.

Over 200 tonnes of dead fish were recently been recovered from West Lake. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has urged Hanoi authorities to find out the cause of the incident.

Hanoi will use a special substance imported from Germany to treat around 200 polluted lakes.
