Heavy rains are forecast for Vietnam’s northern region over the next two days due to a weakening low pressure area with rain-triggered floods and landslides warned for mountainous provinces.

Rain-triggered floods and landslides are forecast for the northern region. 



The national meteorological agency stated that medium to heavy rains will start to fall in Quang Ninh, Lang Son and Bac Giang provinces on the afternoon of July 24 before expanding to the whole mountainous and midland region on July 25 and 26.

Heavy rains at between 50 and 150 millimetres will concentrate in Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Lai Chau provinces.

Flood alerts at the highest level have been issued for a number of rivers in the region.

According to the weather service stated that there is a very high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous provinces, especially Lai Chau, Son La, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Bac Kan and Cao Bang.

Vietnam’s northern mountainous region is still reeling from previous floods and landslides with the death toll now reaching 28.
