Vietnamese and Chinese airlines are working on plans to launch more flights to meet increasing demand for air travel between the two countries.

China Southern Airlines announced that it will commence flights linking Guangzhou and Phu Quoc Island off mainland Kien Giang Province from July 6. The airline will use its Boeing B737-800 aircraft to conduct three weekly services on the new route on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

As scheduled, the carrier’s aircraft will take off in Guangzhou at 5:35 p.m. and land on Phu Quoc at 7:25 p.m. One hour later, the airplane will depart the island for the Chinese city.

China Southern will resume its Guangzhou-Danang service on July 8. The airline will fly between the two cities on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The carrier operates 21 flights on the HCMC-Guangzhou route, 14 flights on Hanoi-Guangzhou, seven services on Nha Trang-Guangzhou, and three flights on HCMC-Shenzhen every week. It operates Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A321 aircraft for these routes.

Cui Heng, general manager of China Southern Airlines for HCMC Office, said the flights are connected to the carrier’s services to other parts of the world via Guangzhou. 

Vietnam Airlines has commenced a direct service between Vietnam’s central coastal city of Danang and Shi Jia Zhuang, the capital of north China’s Hebei province, the Vietnam News Agency reported. The service is scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

More air routes will be launched starting July to link Shi Jia Zhuang and Nha Trang in Vietnam, Phuket in Thailand, Vladivostok in Russia, and the U.S.

More than 789,450 Chinese visited Vietnam in the first four months of this year, soaring 47% year-on-year, according to the General Statistics Office.
