Earlier this month, the personal Facebook page of Tran Thi Loc (41), from Long Son 8 Hamlet, Yen Xuan Commune, Nghe An Province, was flooded with congratulations. The mother had just experienced one of the most emotional moments of her life after organizing a complete and memorable wedding ceremony for her daughter Nguyen Kim Yen (19) and son-in-law Hoang Khanh (26) on May 28.
Yen is the second of three siblings. She was born visually impaired, with eyes clouded as if covered by a layer of mist. Her childhood was marked by insecurity about her frail health.
At the age of nine, Yen had to leave her parents and move to Thanh Hoa to study Braille. After more than six years away, she returned home only to face another tragedy. In 2021, her father passed away, leaving her mother to raise the children on her own.
A year later, the door of destiny opened for Yen.
To ease her loneliness, she joined a social media group and accidentally got to know Hoang Khanh, a young man from Son La who was working at a massage establishment for people with disabilities in Hanoi.
Their first casual messages soon faded into silence as distance and daily struggles got in the way. It was not until 2025 that Khanh contacted again, and that was when their bond truly began to grow.
Through countless conversations, the two wounded souls gradually found a deep connection.
Yen was touched by Khanh’s story. He had once been fully sighted but lost his vision after a tragic accident while in eighth grade. In return, Khanh was completely captivated by the rich inner world of a young woman he had never met in person.
Their love grew stronger over time, eventually inspiring the Nghe An native to make a bold decision.
She booked a shared ride and traveled hundreds of kilometers alone to Hanoi to surprise her boyfriend. Their first face-to-face meeting was filled with emotion. As they spent more time together, both realized they wanted a serious, lifelong relationship.
Understanding her children’s wishes, Loc devoted herself to preparing the best wedding she possibly could. In her mind, although her children could not see the light, their special day should never be simple or incomplete.
On the wedding day, Loc took the place of her late husband and led her daughter into the ceremony hall. As she entrusted her daughter to the man who would care for and protect her for the rest of her life, the mother became overwhelmed with emotion.
“Many guests were brought to tears by the bride and groom’s story,” Loc recalled.
