VietNamNet Bridge – Detecting her 12-year-old son stealing money, a young mother in the northern port city of Hai Phong whipped the boy’s buttocks and forced him to walk naked on the streets.

In the afternoon of April 11, the police agency of Cat Dai Ward of Le Chan District, Hai Phong City confirmed that a local woman forced her son to walk naked on the street as punishment for the act of stealing money.

The boy is a student in Kien An District, Hai Phong.

At around 1pm the same day, at the railway on Tran Nguyen Han Road, Viet was seen walking naked on the busy road, with the whip marks on his buttocks.

The mother named Ngoc walked behind with a stick on her hand. She constantly scolded the boy. Many people dissuaded her but Ngoc insisted that she was teaching her son and did not want anyone to interfere.

Being informed of the case, local policemen were present at the site about 30 minutes later. At that time, Ngoc let her son return home and wore clothes. She kept insisting that this is her own job to educate her son.

The boy admitted that he stole VND500,000 ($25) of his grandmother to buy toys so he was punished by his mother.

The mother said this was not the first time the boy stole money.

"I forced him to be naked so that he felt ashamed so he would abandon the stealing habits," explained the young mother.

The police reminded the mother of the improper behavior towards her child and asked her to not repeat it.
