The National Assembly Committee for National Defence and Security convened its 21st plenary session in the central city of Da Nang on March 11 to sum up its activities during the NA’s 13 th tenure.

NA Vice Chairman Huynh Ngoc Son asked the committee to work closely with its sub-committees to ensure social safety and order for elections to the 14th NA and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 tenure.

The committee’s standing board has mapped out its tasks during the 14 th tenure, which include the examination of a series of draft laws, such as the Law on Demonstration, the Law on National Defence (revised), the Guard Law, the Law on Communal Police and the Law on the Management and Use of Weapons, Explosives and Supporting Tools.

The committee’s standing board suggested that the NA and the NA Standing Board should define the directions for completing the system of law on national defence and security in its report reviewing the 13th tenure of the legislative body.

The board emphasized that NA should continue to institutionalise the Party policies and guidelines on combining economic development with the strengthening of national defence-security capacity.

It also called for improving the capacity of safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, consolidating people-based defence and building strong armed forces, refining legal regulations on national defence and security, national border, non-traditional security, civil defence and the defence-security industry.

The board also urged the NA’s Party Committee to propose that the Politburo direct research on renewing the Party leadership over the NA.
