Singapore’s Gemadept and Sao Do Group put Nam Dinh Vu port (the first stage) into operation in Nam Dinh Vu industrial park in the northern port city of Hai Phong on May 7.
Nam Dinh Vu deep-water port
It is the seventh among Gemadept’s ports which is able to accommodate vessels up to 40,000 tonnes.
The port covers an area of 65ha with a 1,500m wharf, costing a total of 6 trillion VND. The second stage of the project is expected to begin in the third quarter this year. By 2020, it will become the largest deep-water port in Dinh Vu, Hai Phong.
General Director of Gemadept Vietnam Do Van Minh said the volume of containers handled via Hai Phong ports has grown by 15 percent annually over the past five years. It is forecast that 100 million tonnes of cargo will be handled via Hai Phong ports this year.
Therefore, the construction of Nam Dinh Vu port and Lach Huyen international port in Hai Phong will ease pressure on inland ports and traffic, and improve the capacity of cargo handling.
Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration Nguyen Xuan Sang said Nam Dinh Vu is the nearest to other ports in Hai Phong with linkage with Hanoi – Hai Phong, Hai Phong – Ha Long highways, making it an ideal transit in the global logistics chain.-VNA
