On the morning of March 26, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man chaired a meeting on preparations for the first session of the 16th National Assembly.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman emphasized that the session carries special significance, following the success of the 14th National Party Congress, the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, and the outcomes of the second Central Committee conference.

The upcoming session will review and decide on the consolidation of key state positions, including the President, Prime Minister, National Assembly Chair, Vice Chairs of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Ministers, members of the Government, members of the Standing Committee, the Ethnic Council, and various committees of the National Assembly.

At the local level, provinces and cities are actively preparing for their own first sessions of provincial People’s Councils, aiming to complete them before March 31. Some localities may hold their sessions after the National Assembly’s first meeting due to personnel arrangements linked to the central level.

The National Election Council has announced the list of 500 elected deputies. It is expected that by March 27, the council will officially pass a resolution confirming the eligibility of all 500 deputies of the 16th National Assembly.

The Chairman noted that after the election, both central and local agencies reviewed all petitions and complaints in accordance with regulations before officially announcing the results.

Coordination among relevant agencies has now been largely completed, meeting the conditions required to confirm the status of the 500 deputies. The Office of the National Assembly and the Committee for Deputy Affairs are continuing to finalize necessary procedures to ensure overall progress.

He also welcomed the organization of training sessions for newly elected deputies by the Committee for Deputy Affairs.

This activity is considered highly practical, benefiting not only first-time deputies but also re-elected members. The training focuses on equipping approximately 70 percent of new deputies at both central and local levels with knowledge of regulations, operational principles, use of equipment, procedures at the Dien Hong Hall, and participation in National Assembly sessions.

According to the plan, there are about 10 days remaining before the preparatory meeting, ahead of the official opening session. During this time, agencies will continue to comprehensively review completed tasks, ongoing work, and any outstanding issues in order to promptly report and seek guidance from National Assembly leaders and the Standing Committee.

If preparations meet the required standards, further meetings will be held to finalize arrangements, ensuring that the first session of the 16th National Assembly proceeds on schedule with quality and efficiency.

Reporting at the meeting, National Assembly Secretary General and Chairman of the Office of the National Assembly Le Quang Manh stated that the first session will consider and decide on organizational and personnel matters; nine draft laws and resolutions; five groups of issues related to socio-economic development, finance, the state budget, supervision, and other important matters; along with nine additional groups of issues submitted for deputies’ review.

The total working time of the National Assembly is expected to be 11 days, with the session scheduled to open on the morning of April 6 and close on April 24.
