In 2011-2015, the police detected 8,200 child abuse cases with nearly 10,000 victims, an increase of 258 victims compared to the previous five years.

The number of sexual abuse cases accounted for 5,300 cases (65%), with the increase of sexual assaults on boys.

In 2011, the police arrested more than 1,000 child abusers and more than 1,400 abusers in 2015.

Most of suspects in cases of child sexual abuse were people who were close to the victims, such as parents’ acquaintances, neighbors, and even teachers, stepfather...

Specifically, many abusers used social networks, internet forums, online messaging to commit crime.

"With 31% of Vietnam's population using Facebook, the risk of sexual abuse against children originating from the photos posted by their parents is really alarming," said Hoang Xuan Phong from the Police Department against Hi-tech Crime.

The cause of this situation is partly because of lack of education of necessary knowledge about sexual abuse at school and family, experts said.

According to the International Civil Society Network (ECPAT), of 1.8 billion photos uploaded every day, there are 270,000 images of child sexual abuse.

The child pornography network has up to 1.2 million GB of data. Notably, the subjects considered posting child sexual abuse images are mostly parents, up to 38%, followed by neighbors or friends of the family, with 26%.
