VietNamNet Bridge - Fallen trees on the street, houses without roofs, and pedestrians knocked by wind were among the images shared on social networks after Mirinae, the first typhoon of the season, hit northern Vietnam on July 27.

The typhoon landed in the two northern provinces of Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces on the evening of July 27.

Two people were reported killed by the typhoon in Hanoi and Hung Yen, and a fisherman is listed as missing after his boat sunk because of strong waves in Thanh Hoa.

12 other people were injured, and strong winds caused 11 houses to collapse and blew away roofs of 278 houses. Heavy rains and strong winds also uprooted nearly 32,800 trees and more than 200 utility poles. Flooding also damaged over 110,000 hectares of rice farmland in Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh.

Eight flights of Vietnam Airlines and eight of Jetstar Pacific Airlines were delayed from taking off at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi while six Vietnam Airlines flights to Hanoi were halted, reported the VNA.
